Liff, Health, Ants, Work
Dec. 22nd, 2003 12:29 pmLiff: Saturday and Sunday were pretty mellow days, following a serious blowup K. & I had on Friday night. I finished my Christmas shopping, reread Bendis' Alias (except for the last volume, which is still awaiting release), continued onward through King's It, played a number of games with Kimberly, and worked through a revisal I'm doing of a review of Teuber's The Settlers of Catan. (It was one of my first German board game reviews, and I'm happy to bring it up to the standards of my later ones, and yet at the same time don't mind releasing it just before Christmas, because it's been read before.)
I also watched some of From Hell before turning it off due to a combination of bad writing, bad characterization, abysmal adaptation of the facts & speculation related to the Ripper killings, and a damaged DVD. Highlander III was ever so slightly more successful. I watched it through to the end, though I can't say much about the writing or characterization.
Health: Wednesday evening was when I started taking my new antibiotics. I've now taken 5 days of my 21 day supply. And, I've noticed the same thing as before. Within 12-24 hours of taking the first dosage my entire outlook was changed. I was feeling considerably less fatigued and less confused. Time flow also seemed to slow down too, with days and evenings both seeming longer, rather than just passing by in a blur. I also haven't had any hot/feverish flashes since I started on the antibiotics, not that I had a lot before. I must, must, must remember this in case I have to go see the doctor a third time. Both times the antibiotics seemed to make a huge difference in my mental state within a day (which in itself is pretty scary that I was doing that badly beforehand). I'm still having pain, but it's feeling more irregular and not like it's ramping up any more. That's a much more uncertain estimate, and I'll have to wait and see on that. I'm hoping I'm up to a 7- or 8-mile trek that K. & I have planned for Christmas Day, but I'm not sure I will be.
Ants: As
kimberly_a chronicled in her own journal, we had quite a bit of trouble with ants last week. The bottom straw for me came when the the Dumb Cat started mewing plaintively at me because ants were swarming over her food. I moved the food, and upon K's suggestion put each food bowl in a tupperware lid filled with water, to keep the ants away. Since, the disbursement of evil poison around our exterior seems to have generally dealt with the problem. We only get occasional ant scouts, who may well be looking for their expired brethren rather than food--and that's a good thing because the cats have drunk all the water out of their little ant moats.
Work: I'm working today and tomorrow, then taking the rest of the week off. It's my little end-of-the-year sanity-break. I'd love to take more time off, but there's still too much that needs doing at work, especially after my being somewhat flaky last week due to sickness.
However, it seems that the rest of the world is already off work as of today. I've been sitting in my home office working this morning & afternoon and have heard an amount of bustling from nearby yards that's entirely unusual for a weekday. There's a little bit of coming and going, but it's mostly folks cleaning, so I can take some solace in that. At least they're not lazing around having fun.
