The Bells, The Bells!
Dec. 3rd, 2003 12:03 pmThe emergency sirens just started going off at UC Berkeley. As they do on the first Wednesday of every month at noon. Or, rather, as they have for 6-9 months, ever since UC Berkeley joined the fear-mongering orgy of hatred and loathing that's been force-fed to the country since 9/11.
I hear the sirens most months, and my first reaction tends to be, 'What-the-f*ck!?'. Then my gaze wanders over to a clock, and the little gears start clicking in my head, and the twelve-o-clock-on-the-first-Wednesday fact drops into my head and all becomes obvious.
If the sirens went off at some other time, I honestly don't know if I'd be able to figure out the source. Without the Wednesday-at-twelve clue I'd more likely think they were some obnoxious local construction or something.
Just another helpful innovation that's making my life safer, thanks to BushCo(tm).
