Had a rare weekend of relax.

The main reason for relaxation was that I skipped gaming on Saturday. The event was helping EF move back into his house that we helped him move out of about a month ago, and I decided to punt because I'm still having weird aches and pains. (I've now made it to the gym precisely once in the last month, for a cardio workout which left me exhausted.)

Gaming is generally good and enjoyable, but I also regenerate a lot of energy by hanging out on my own without social obligation, and thus I should remember that I no longer have to be at gaming every week, now that I'm not hosting, and that perhaps a break every month might do a lot of good given the continued busy-ness of life.

In any case, other gamers helped EF move again, while I hung out and relaxed. It seemed fair enough given that I originally helped him move into his house a couple of years ago on my own, while the other gamers hung out and relaxed.

I read a bit over the weekend. I've continued on Wolves of Calla by Stephen King, which is fun and interesting, but doesn't hit the height that the fourth book of The Dark Tower did. I also purchased and read volumes II and III of the Lucifer comic book series. I've read all of these in the original issues, but was amazed to discover that I barely remember many of them. Lots of reasons: it's been a couple of years; the story is very continuous, which I think inhibits memory of individual issues; and when some of these particular issues came out was when K. & I were having troubles in 2001, and thus memory was probably particularly bad. In any case, I'm even more convinced after reading the comics in book form that Lucifer is a superb story that's right up there with the Sandman. Even though I've previously read the issues, I'm very much looking forward to picking up volume IV, when I have money again, next week.

Also watched various amounts of TV: some Law & Order on the TiVo and continuing through season 4 of Stargate off DVD. When we're done with Stargate, we're going to watch the recently released season 4 of The Sopranos which I'm greatly looking forward to.

The other main entertainment of the weekend was gaming. Gaming with wife that is, not gamers. We played a game of Boggle on Saturday, then I finally got her to try the Jack the Ripper Mystery Rummy game which I'd bought a week or two ago with her in mind. She liked it. A lot. Between Saturday and Sunday we played at least half-a-dozen games. As a result I bought the next two Mystery Rummy games: Murders at the Rue Morgue and Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde. They should be arrived from funagain later in the week. (I would have bought these locally, because they're cheap, but GoB doesn't stock them, just underlining my memories of a decade of stocking neglect at that store.)

On Friday night, when I bought volume II of Lucifer, I also bought some new pants and a new shirt, which used up the end of my magic money. Alas. On the other hand I'm looking forward to next year, when money should be a little less tight thanks to the house refinance.

Other than that, I did a bit of writing and a bit of programming this weekend. I finished up a review of Puerto Rico and a slight revision of a review of The Princes of Florence, and also programmed two "neighborhoods" for RPGnet: strategy games and d20. These are some collations of topical information which I initially plan to offer as part of RPGnet memberships, then roll out to the general community once we have something else to replace them with for members (likely my.rpg.net). I never got around to working on my "Vale of Flowers" article this weekend, which I should have, but I can't complain too much given how full the weekend was.

And now it's back to work. Lots of email catchup to do, as is the case every Monday. I also need to get some new ads running on RPGnet for GenCon, which is going to require figuring out how to give them a precise number of banners every month, juggled with all the other, variant ad programs I'm running. A bit of a pain, primarily because I can't easily use PHP in the forums.
