Very Busy Day: Mortgages & Family
Nov. 1st, 2003 01:08 amHad a very busy day today. Took off from work about halfway through the day to hop on to BART toward San Jose. Got picked up at the station just in time to get on the 880 and hit nasty rush hour traffic on the way to Los Gatos.
The goal was a title company.
Last month, my parents changed the deed to our house to include myself and K. Today we all signed all the documents necessary to refinance the house with a loan in my name. So, I now have my very own mortgage (and as my dad kindly points out, it'll be paid off when I'm 61 years old).
Anyway, it's an all-around good thing. The interest rate is now stunningly low and next year we'll be paying less in mortgage payments, insurance, and property tax than we were this year for rent. And, much of it's tax deductible, which should allow even more win at the end of the year. Now I suppose I can say I'm truly an adult. One wife. Two cats. One mortgage.
It's the American Dream.
On the way back we stopped by the parent's house, then had dinner at a little bakery in The Great Mall of Milpitas, then headed back up to Fremont where we caught BART. Total round trip: about 7 hours, and much more time in transport than I particularly enjoy.
On the other hand, it was good being out and about on Halloween, because we got to see all the freaks in their costumes. There was one particularly cool costume, a guy who'd done himself up as Twister game. And, of course, there were plenty of women in tight and/or low-cut outfits, begging for people to look at their breats.
No complaints there.
