Callisto went back to the vet today. Temp was down from 105 to 104.5, white blood cell count from 23k to 19k (or something like that). Though those both sounds like a positive trend, it's small enough that it's just as likely random variation, and she has tipped back toward anemia (low red blood cell count). Her weight is also down to 9 pounds, from a height of 13.

So that was one of our few remaining hopes: that we could see a real change in the numbers from her third antibiotic, and it's not exactly dashed, but at least fractured quite a bit.

Our other hope was that we'd have urine culture back soon, and that would show us precisely what her UTI was susceptible to. But we learned that her urine sample had gotten hung up in the mail. (Donald Trump and his lapdog Louis DeJoy and their destruction of the US Mail System are the gift that keeps on giving.) The urine sample arrived today at the lab, so we're going to have results Friday AT THE EARLIEST and more likely Monday, especially given the holiday weekend.

So we are despairing a bit that we have this monotony of severe cat sickness ahead of for the near future.

Our vet also admitted that they're getting to the edges of what they can do on island and suggested that care in Honolulu might be the next step. We're not sure if subjecting Callisto to that for a narrow chance of a positive result is worthwhile for her.

We've now doubled up on her antibiotics (which will make the kitty more nauseous I expect) and we're back in the waiting game until that urine culture comes back. Not going to be a good week.
