In Which I Write About a Strange Birthday

shannon_aObviously, this is the weirdest birthday ever.
It's been 12 weeks since we moved to Hawaii, really resetting our lives. The islands are wonderful and are already starting to offer the calmer, more tranquil, less stressful life that I'd been hoping for ... until recent weeks. (And of course all of my books and games are still in boxes: my dad and I were working on shelves, but we stopped last week.)
It's one week until our house is supposed to close in the Bay Area, and boy has that been stressful on a day-to-day basis since late February, as we constantly dodge and weave COVID-19 issues that could impact the sale.
It's one week until I'm planning to cut back on my full time work at Skotos, to give more time to the Designers & Dragon writing that I want to be doing, along with other personal writing projects. (This is likely to be delayed between days and weeks later than planned, because I'm still coding and sysadminning to prepare Skotos and RPGnet for my departure.)
And it's one day until the entire island of Hawaii begins to shelter-in-place due to COVID-19, which literally starts a minute after my birthday ends.
So there's never been a birthday that's been so full of change, so much a time of transition, or that's had so much stress and uncertainty lying across it. But, if not for the threat of pandemic, this would also be one of the most positive birthdays ever, because I have the real possibility to make my life what I want it to be in the coming weeks, months, and years. Hopefully, the disease will fade away, in the fullness of time, and the hope will continue forward.
