Got word from our loan agent yesterday that our refinance on the house was ready to close. This was really good news because a year ago, when we last tried to refi, we just threw up our hands in disgust because the bank seemed absolutely determined not to give us a loan after saying they wanted to.
This time around, there were some glitches (including having the appraiser that caused some of our problems last time show up), but they seemed to generally go away pretty easily.
Last week I had a box of comics from InStockTrades totally vanish, somewhere in between the mailman dropping it off (somewhere) and it getting to me. I wrote IST to see if they could help track it, but it turns out that the USPS's "Delivery Confirmation(tm)" is all but worthless. They can't confirm that it was delivered to any particular address, nor do they get any signature. So, I dunno if it got delivered to a wrong address or if it got stolen from the UPS Store before it was filed away, but one way or another it seems to be gone.
On the good side, when I asked IST for help tracking it, they instead replaced it after we'd waiting around a few more days to see it wasn't really showing up. As of this morning, a new box should be winding its way to me. So, big recommendation for InStockTrades. And now I can (once more) look forward to some trades that were at the top of my to-read list, including Morning Glories Vol. 3, X-Men: Schism, the newest Legion of Super-Heroes Vol.3, and X-Force: Toy Soldiers. Hopefully they'll get there this time!
In 15 years of using eBay, Amazon, and whatever else, this is the first time that I can remember that something has ever gone totally missing. Pretty disappointing, when it happened. (I've had a couple of situations where individual paperbacks never showed up, but I'm pretty sure those involved sellers never actually sending them.)
Had a bit of an Alacrity get-together last night. Chris, Katelyn, Kalle, and I got together for some dinner at Gather in Downtown Berkeley.
I really enjoy working on my own, but there was some nice camaraderie at that get-together that reminded me of the advantages of co-workers as well.
A good evening with good food and good company.
