Mad Dreams
Apr. 24th, 2003 10:41 amI had strange and unsettled sleep last night. I collapsed in bed about 10pm, absolutely exhausted, and then slept until 9.30am. I tossed and turned and woke and slept many times during the night. I also had many dreams, though I can only remember one.
I was some type of police officer or prison warden out in the wilderness. There had been some type of battle right around an underground prison for very bad people.
I was wandering the battlefield, surveying the damage, and I realized that the inmates from the prison had been pulled in all the dead bodies that were at the entrance to their prison and were using them in some fashion to help themselves escape.
At this point I realized that I had no way to get out of this god-forsaken wilderness, and that if I didn't do anything the inmates were going to use my body to escape too. So I pulled a medical kit out of my jacket and injected myself with some compound that would explode my heart (and my body) in a couple of minutes. I had the antidote too, so I knew I could reverse it if I went into the prison and had the upperhand.
So, I went inside, and walked down this long corridor with cells on either side. Pretty much as I expected the inmates were in control and making their devious plans.
But then I realized there was a secret passage leading to the identical prison next door, and that one was absolutely empty, and I could thus use it to phone back to the home base and get airlifted out.
At this point my heart started beating like a jack hammer and I realized I only had seconds left. I fumbled out my medical kit and clumsily poured the antidote into the needle, and then prepared to inject myself.
And then I woke up, and my head was filled with "Mad World".
I slept for another couple of hours after that, but even upon waking since I've been feeling unsettled and still groggy, as if from lack of sleep.

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
'Cos I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very
Mad World
