Swimming

My Hawaiian vacation doesn't officially begin until I get to swim in the ocean, so I'm happy to say that I got to swim in the ocean today.

The sun flirted with us all day, but it was gray again by the time we got to Poipu, which was a shame. It was thus a little cool when we swam, and the sun never came out. I didn't find that I was too cold, but there's certain full-body joy that comes from basking in the sun as you dive through the waves, and alas I didn't get that today. The water was also a little murky from the torrential downpour that Kauai had just before we arrived and the fish were pretty scarce. So, it wasn't exactly an ideal swim, but most any swim in the ocean in Hawaii is a good swim, so it was.

Afterward, while we were heading to a shopping center to get ice cream (and a deadly chocolate and peanut-butter desert for me, as I can't really eat ice cream) we got caught in a torrential downpour. My dad and Kimberly quickly scurried to the protection of the shopping center's eaves, but I just walked casually and enjoyed it, as I love the rain in temperate weather. The fact that we don't get it in the Bay Area is my biggest problem with the weather there.

Hmm. Swimming. Singing in the rain. Apparently I like water.

Other than that, there was much reading of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, which I'm loving, and some napping (no surprise there), and some leftover food from the Bible Study last night (which was good) and generally good company and talk, but still enough time for me on my own (that'd be the reading and napping).

Meanwhile, back on the home front, Vet Tech cat sitter reports good success with getting Cobweb to eat heated cat food.

And tomorrow we're planning to go to the North Shore of Kauai, which Kimberly and I had never seen. I've been hoping to see a bit more of the island rather than just visit our same old haunts, and that sounds like a great step in that direction. Or rather a drive. A pretty long one.
