shannon_aSo Munchkin has ... CKD. Chronic Kidney Disease. Just like Cobweb.
The doc thinks that her main problem right now is nausea caused by the kidney disease so we've been told to start her on the same regimen as Cobweb: 1/4 of a Pepcid AC each morning, 1/4 of an anti-nausea drug each morning, and 1/4 of an anti-nausea drug each night. We've also been told to give her subcutaneous fluids, but at half the rate of Cobweb because of her tinier size. Hopefully that means we can do it every other day. She also needs her own fluids because she doesn't eat enough bananas. (She apparently has a potassium deficiency.) Kimberly is going to pick those up later today.
So, we just had our cat maintenance go up a lot, with all this pills for Cobweb, and now we've got that plus fluids for Munchkin, so ... that's a whole lot. (Like an acre or something?) But, we're probably talking about a couple of minutes each day for pills and 5-10 minutes for fluids while we're watching TV anyway, so it's not horrible, just something to get used to.
On the bright side, Munchkin wasn't showing any signs of kidney infection, which is what I was most worried about, as if you have an infection, sometimes you try antibiotics and they don't work and then you have to go regrow the bacteria and find the specific strain and give specific pills. It could have been a several week ordeal.
For now, the Doc says that Muchkin should (hopefully) be more energetic and eating within the next two days. (Which unfortunately puts us into the dreaded 3-day weekend, but there you go.) And if not, to bring her in.
