Katherine had some extra tickets, so we joined her (and another friend) today at Zellerbach Auditorium on campus to see the Peking Acrobats. It was a good show, full of physically impressive acts of agility, dexterity, strength, flexibility, and lots more.

The show was broken up into about 19 individual act, each of which spotlighted different people doing different things. I most enjoyed one in which several of the male acrobats leapt through hoops, sometimes multiple ones at a time, and the "Lion Dance" which kicked off Part II, which had the acrobats in lion costumes, two per costume, who did really impressive things in coordination.

I think we were all surprised by how segregated the men and women were in the show. Only in the final performance, which involved lots of human pyramids, did they work together in any meaningful way. There was also a real notable difference in what the men and women did. The men inevitably did the most active and exciting acts, while the women tended to lots of variations of balancing and juggling. I did like one juggling act and a ropes-with-red-spinny-things act, but several of the other acts with women got a bit dull after a while.

Overall, though, it was impressive and fun.

(Thanks Katherine!)

To make it more of a date, Kimberly and I went out to dinner afterward at Cancun Tacqueria. I'd stopped going there years ago because I got sick whenever I ate there, but not so much tonight. So, I'm guessing that was from days when I didn't know what I couldn't eat, which is nice because the food was terrific.
