The Apple Gathering. Saw my dad, Mary, Melody, and Jared on Tuesday. We had dinner out at Angeline's, our local cajun restaurant, which was delicious (and loud) as usual. It was great seeing everyone. Both times my dad and Mary have been back to the mainland since moving to Hawaii, I initially felt sort of bad that we didn't hang out with them more, but then (each time) upon hearing how busy their schedule was visiting everyone I decided they really didn't have more time anyway!

We get to spend lots of time with them in Hawaii each year, in any case.

Melody is making lots of plans for the future, including a drive toward a CPA, which is totally cool to hear. As Kimberly points out, she was so tiny at our wedding, not so long ago.

The Millennium Gathering. Last night, Kimberly and I went to Millennium in San Francisco, to celebrate our birthdays. (It was delayed two weeks because she was sick.) Sadly Millennium has been going (even more) upscale since they moved down the street from ACT. Their prices were up pretty notably and their dinner meal was even more unreadable than it used to be.

(Of course, this being San Francisco, there were still tons of casual people there, wearing tennis shoes, tank tops, hoodies, and who knows what else.)

Nonetheless, the food was great. And the desert ... oh god. I can't say what a luxury it is to have a set of terrific deserts that are all dairy-free. I had a chocolate mousse cake which was decadently delicious, as well as a bite of Kimberly's peanut butter ice cream (which was OK, but it was the only ice "cream" that I've had in years and years). I'm less tempted by their main dishes given their price increases, but I'd go out there for desert any time.

Cobweb. We continue to stab the cat. Poor baby is stressed about it now, from what I can tell, as she gets nervous when we put her in a box on the table, then lets out a loud mew when Kimberly inserts the needle. Afterward she's mostly calm, until the end where she starts trying to escape. Sigh. Godzilla cat rearing back ... RAWRRR!!!!

I wonder if we should change the venue to try and destress her.

In any case, she's clearly got much of her appetite back. We took her to the vet yesterday so that they could do a new test to see if we've managed to flush the infection from her kidney, and we hope to get good news from that. (Else, it's more antibiotics and continued stabbing.) On the downside, she lost about a pound during her not-eating period and so is down to 9.3 or so.

I'm not sure our poor baby has too much longer, but she does seem on the upswing for the moment, while she's got antibiotics and subcutaneous fluids in her system.

Taxes. After Kimberly went to sleep last night, I was able to push through most of our taxes, thanks to TurboTax. Still got a couple of hours work, I'd guess, but it's a huge load off know much of it is done, as that amount remaining can be done easily as I feel like it.

Rest! And thus I get a pretty restful weekend, with no book hanging over my head for the first time in three months or a year, depending on how you count it. (I was doing an article a week for the first nine months, then from January to March most of my free time was going into it.)

And that feels great!

Today after lunch, I thought about going for a long bike ride (which I haven't done since sometime last year), but decided that'd just eat up my free time and not leave me rested. So instead I'm going to kick around the house, reading, writing, and cleaning my office as it strikes me. Oh, and labeling stuff for the Endgame auction and picking out books to go to Moes and/or Powells, which is sort of the cleaning, I suppose.

(And we're going to the dog park anyway, tomorrow, on the way to Target, which will be a bit of a nice ride.)

Do you know about Café Tibet? Good Tibetan food, great desserts.

There's one dessert that is little dumplings with cinnamon sugar, and another that's a chocolate mousse pie with a hint of spice -- I don't think there's any milk or milk product in either of those, but I can't say with absolute certainty. You could ask.
