E-lec-tric-i-tee. As of this evening, we have working lights again in our downstairs bathroom. Rather than buying a new light bar or anything of the sort, I ended up buying a new switch and rewiring the light. Yay me.
It's the first time I've ever done electrical work. I wouldn't have tried it if not for the revelation that the reason we couldn't find a light bar with a switch was ... that my dad had originally wired a regular one up with a switc for us when he & Mary got us some new bathroom stuff several years ago. Looking over his work, I thought it all looked simple enough, and, sure enough.
The real magic was in little caps that you use to join wires together. I'm pleased that I can now do the plain-stupid electrical stuff if I want.
2000 Miles. Last week my bike odometer hit 2000 miles. It was something like 10 months since I'd hit 1000 miles and 21 since I got the odometer for my bike.
The first year of new biking was largely recreational and exploratory. In the second year it's turned back into a mode of transit. There have been many fewer bike adventures--at least partially because I've been going hard on the RPG history book for much of 2010, and at least partially some because Kimberly was sick for much of the last 8 months--but still some, including a memorable trip down the San Francisco peninsula and another one up to the surprisingly close rural streets of El Sobrante. I also revisited a number of old routes, including the Iron Horse Trail, sections of the nearby Bay Trail, and several trips up the Ohlone Greenway. Contrariwise, I now have at least 25 miles of biking on my regular schedule every week: to and from Endgame twice and out grocery shopping once.
It's still been fun, and I'm still quite happy that I got started biking again two years ago, when it was one of the few things that would relieve my headaches.
For the next year, I have many adventures I'd still like to do, including a number of routes in San Francisco and some more of the good 'ole Bay Trail.
A Weird Weekend. It looks like this weekend will be an unusual one. My regular Saturday gaming got canceled at the last minute (e.g., a couple of hours ago). That's three in a row again, so apparently our flakiness is still upon us. But I really, really think we'll be back for one of the last Savage Tide adventures next week.
Meanwhile, I've got a game day up at Chris' on Sunday, which turned out to be great timing, given the collapse of Saturday plans. I haven't biked up to Chris' in a number of years, so I'll be curious to see if it's any easier now that I've been biking consistently for a couple of years. In olden days, there were a couple of hills that I just couldn't make it up without walking. However, I'll still not very good on hills, so we'll see.
Because of the topsy-turviness of those two events, Kimberly and I are doing our regular Sunday routines on Saturday. We're going to do some early morning grocery shopping, then probably do some hanging out.
