Illegal Baseballs
Nov. 7th, 2002 01:01 pmThe Case of the Illegal Barry Bonds Baseball continues:
Bleachers Law Goes to Class
The story: Alex Popov, the owner of Smart Alec's in Berkeley, and Sacramento Resident, Patrick Hayashi, are engaged in a lawsuit over ownership of Barry Bond's record breaking homerun ball.
Popov got it first, but wasn't necessarily in control of it. Then a mob descended upon him like an angry wave, and when he emerged groggily from the pileup, Patrick Hayashi had the ball.
So who deserves to get the baseball in major league games? The first person who touched it? The final one? The last man standing in a mugging free-for-all? It's an interesting case.
This most recent article talks about the judge in the case going to a panel of legal experts and getting four different opinions on what should be done.
