The Last Day of Birthdaze

So today was the last day of birthdaze celebrations, it being Kimberly's actual day of birth.
She cares more about such things than I, and wanted to get out and do things. She ultimately decided upon a hike up in Tilden. So, we got together some sandwiches at Andronico's, then took the 67 bus up to Tilden Park. I was a bit worried about the bussing because today was the day in which AC Transit made massive cuts in their service--moving toward their ultimate goal of making public transit both entirely useless and prohibitively expensive in the Bay Area. But, fortunately, our bus line was not impacted.
That's perhaps not a surprise, because the weekend bus to Tilden is already next to useless. It only runs once an hour. It was not a surprise that we were the only people riding up there and the only people riding back. might says that it's no wonder they only run once an hour. I says if they ran more often people would actually use them.
In any case, it was a quick trip up to Tilden, as usual. We got off out in the west of the park, near their nature preserve area. After lunch we hiked up the hillside a bit, then cut eastward along a creekside trail that took us up to Lake Anza, past it, then all the way up the Brazil Room. I was impressed, because all told we covered at least half of the length of the park.
The trail itself was very pretty. There were some nice waterfalls at various places, most small, but one of which was particularly spectacular, just up before Lake Anza. I was also very pleased with the lower half of the trail, up until Lake Anza, because we'd never walked it before. I always like the new.
There were tons of dogs in the park. Up near the northeast corner of Lake Anza there were four of them playing in the water. Kimberly and I sat down and watched them for a while, just soaking in the joy.
Up past the Brazil Room is the Tilden Botanical Garden, which I'd never been in before. We decided to check it out. It was huge! And full of lots of bridges and other cool stuff. Kimberly and I wandered around it for a bit, beelining straight to that same creek, then finally decided it was too much for today. Another time.
After making it home, then resting for an hour or so (there was napping involved on my part, for which I blame the cat), we then went out to a Middle Eastern dinner that Kimberly had requested.
And now the birthdazes are over. Well, except I'm taking the next two days off, but that's as much comp time for the iPad-crunch as anything. Looking forward to a bit of rest though, after the programming week and the birthday weekend alike.
