Hapa Road. Yesterday, my dad and I did some research on "Hapa Road". This was a trail that he'd heard of that ran between Poipu and old Koloa. There'd apparently been protests about construction going on near this old, historic trail. Our research turned up the fact that it was an old cane road and in the 1960s had been turned into the first pedestrian and bike road in Kauai. Pretty cool, eh? Not so much.

Nowadays the two ends of the road have been turned into paved-over automobile roads of absolutely no interest. The area in between is still pedestrian/bike only, but it's a pretty uninteresting walk, with mainly Hawaiian scrub lying to the sides. When we walked it today it got more and more weed-filled as we headed further south, until we eventually turned back.

Bugs. I've never had bug problems before in Hawaii, but I've got a half-dozen bites this time around, mostly on my legs.

Swimmmmming in the Rain. After our Hapa walk, we headed down to Poipu for my daily swim. It was a bit gray, so my dad decided to opt out. I swam on in, unconcerned. After I was out for 10 or 15 minutes I noticed rain pattering down on the surface. It didn't really disturb me, but I knew my dad and K. would be out in the rain, so I headed back to shore. K. was pretty unconcerned about the wet, but my poor dad was huddled under his towel. Kauai makes one weak when confronted with cold.

Tacos. Chicken tacos, with onions, guacamole, salsa, and pepperjack cheese. Tasty.

Star Trek. God Dad the new Star Trek for Christmas. Watched it tonight. Much fun was had by all. At least as good the second time (though better on the original big screen).
