Hawaii Day #5

Another busy day in Hawaii.
Went to church this morning with the folks. It's my annual or so interface with religion (though it's actually the second time I've been to a church service in January, with Chris' memorial service a few weeks' ago). The folks now go to a Baptist Church that's over toward Ele Ele.
The good thing about it was that it seems to be a traditional Hawaiian Church. Lots of guitar and ukele playing. A very casual, wise-cracking pastor.
The bad thing is a pretty common one from what I've seen: a ton of time spent praising God and/or Jesus and not a lot of time spent talking about moral lessons. Not my thing.
At the church service, much as at the party last night, just about everyone I was introduced to said, "You look a lot like your dad." I guess I look a lot like my dad, though the beard, eyeglasses, and balding head all accentuate any similarites.
After church we headed out to Keyoke's, a nice little restaurant in Poipu. I have very fond memories of the restaurant, as we spent Halloween night 2001 there, amidst dancing and a costume contest. That 2001 visit to Hawaii was probably our best, as everything was still so new.
We decided to walk off our lunch, so we went over to Shipwreck Beach, and from there hiked up into the cliffs above. We visited those same cliffs on our visit in 2001:

(You can also see the Trials, Triumphs & Trivialities that I wrote about that trip over at Skotos.)
This time, we walked along the cliffs for a while, with the goal of getting to another beach along the way, but eventually turned back, at least in part because Kimberly wasn't liking walking on the cliffs.
From there it was off to snorkeling. We returned to Lawai Beach. Kimberly wasn't willing to snorkel today, but me, my Dad, and Mary all were out for a while. Melody gave us an underwater camera, so I had some fun doing an underwater scavenger hunt, trying to capture the images of as many beasties as I could.
We'll see how the pics turn out. I wasn't willing to dive down to the bottom, because I've come to the conclusion that I was hurting my still healing sinuses with the pressure, so some of my shots were from somewhat far away.
(The pictures also have to survive the unkind administrations of the airport nazis. Everything now gets x-rayed, but I've been told that film can usually survive 5-6 trips through the smaller machines they use for carry-on bags, and that you don't need to worry about hand-checking them until that point.)
In the evening, our last major event: a walk around the nearby public golf course, which is open to hiking in the early evening. We tromped around and got to see some awesome views of the southeast of the island (since the golf course is up pretty high). We could see much of the south shore (out to at least Poipu) and some of the areas to the west (including THE FORBIDDEN ISLAND).
Ate dinner, watched The Muppets' Wizard of Oz, and generally relaxed. It's now 10.30 or so and everyone else is on their way to bed. A weird day, as I was the first up at about 7.15 and I'll be the last up, probably staying up until 11.15 or so.
Tomorrow is our last day. I plan to put my snorkel aside and try some boogie boarding, but other than that there's not a lot planned (aside from the obvious need to get ready for our trip home).
I've really enjoyed the trip. I think it's relaxed me a lot. However, I'm also looking forward to getting home. Hopefully the cats are all doing fine and will forgive us our trip. I'm also looking forward to EndGaming on Wednesday since I haven't been there in weeks.
