Riots Continue in Oakland

shannon_aSo the assholes continued to be out in Oakland on Wednesday night. If I'd gone to Endgame, it would have been on BART*, and sure enough the juvenile little rebels were getting the 12th and 19th street stations shut down again (as well as breaking windows and all that jazz). Way to turn a tragedy into a referral against you and your mindless thuggery, people worse than BART police.
The city at least is stepping up and giving each business affected by this unlawfulness $2000. That seems to be a nice way to keep the businesses afloat, and not start the City Center back down the awful slide that it could easily head down in this economy and with this sort of random damage.
Meanwhile, the city is hiring extra guards to patrol the streets of downtown and is also looking for ways to give the police more rights to arrest people on private property, break up crowds, and all that jazz.
In other words, the end result of these temper tantrums against the police is that the city is going to have less money to spend on general services, that the police are going to have greater power, and that there will be more poorly trained guards on patrol in Oakland, increasing the chance of tragedy (especially with weekly riots).
Way to go, dumb asses.
* Though I say that, don't think these thugs will keep me out of downtown, nor should it deter anyone else. I was sick this week, but I'll be at Endgame as soon as I'm back from vacation.
