Dirty Blackmailing Mormons
Oct. 24th, 2008 12:01 amWhat you do know, probably, is that bigots in California are trying to pass Proposition 8, which would amend our state's constitution to say that gay people have less rights and shouldn't be allowed to gain the benefits of marriage.
What you may not know is that this prop is being pushed heavily by the Mormons. They have literally invaded our state, coming over the border from Utah, to try and control our politics. With that fact alone it seemed like a little mafioso attack.
What you probably really don't know is that the backers of prop 8 have now begun open blackmail. They've started issuing letters to businesses that opposed prop 8, instructing them to make similar donations (one presumes, in small, unmarked bills) to the "Yes on 8" star chamber, or else they'll be outed as opponents of traditional marriage.
No, seriously.

Something like 30 businesses have received these letters, asking for sums of $10,000 or more.
Yep, that's blackmail all right. What a filthy bunch of hypocritical assholes.
Given how enthusiastic the Mormon Church is about coming into our state and trying to take away basic rights from 5-10% of our population, I think we should answer them in kind.
How do you think they'd feel about an initiative on the next ballot making it illegal for Mormons to have children in California?
Do these sons of a bitches not realize that discrimination of ALL MINORITIES is the path of madness that lies ahead?

"Make a donation of a like amount to ProtectMarriage.com which will help us correct this error," reads the letter. "Were you to elect not to donate comparably, it would be a clear indication that you are in opposition to traditional marriage. ... The names of any companies and organizations that choose not to donate in like manner to ProtectMarriage.com but have given to Equality California will be published."

Date: 2008-10-25 04:39 am (UTC)That was the silliest part of the whole extortion racket - that they thought even being a supporter of gay rights/AKA FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN FREEDOMS was something shameful - because it would be for them, I guess? - and that the companies weren't already publicizing their support for No on 8 themselves! For example, Apple is trumpeting their stance on their "Start Page" today.
Anyway, I really, really hope this comes back and bites them on the butt!
