Eric R. and Barb are back in the US for a week or two, and they're up here in the Bay Area for a couple of days. So, rather than our normal gaming we had a BBQ over at Dave P's house yesterday.
In preparation I made a rare trip over to Berkeley Bowl, braving passive-aggressive baby-boomer hippies, driving their carts like they were in a demolition derby. After becoming briefly lost in the Bowl's massive produce section, I managed to gather a dozen ears of corn, my contribution to the BBQ (along with two bags full of games).
I hadn't been to Dave P's newest house. It's a nice place just off 580 in Oakland, set looking down into one of the valleys that make up the city. The deck is apparently brand new, and it has a glorious view of the city.
There were about a dozen of us there, all told, and we spent most of the afternoon and evening just sitting around and talking. It was good to see Eric and Barb again.
There was booze too. Eric had brought a kiwi vodka while Dave had a Spiced Rum, both of them perfect for all of us girlie drinkers. I almost never drink: maybe a shot or two a year when Dave prepares an infrequent drink at gaming. And, I can't even remember the last time I got drunk. Maybe when Eric left three and a half years ago? Not sure.
In any case, I got drunk as a skunk at the party. I had five or six shots and those carried me through dinner and the BBQ into the early evening.
(Teaching games while drunk? Tricky. Fortunately Eric was quick enough to pick up the rules as I bumbled through them, and thus folks were able to play Bacchus' Banquet and Cash 'n Gunz.)
I was finally starting to sober up by the time Eric called an end to the festivities, sometime around 1am.
Donald gave me a ride back home, and I collapsed pretty shortly thereafter.
Eric talked about maybe doing another get together Monday night. I'm a bit undecided as I'm tired between the ride down to the x-ray shop on Friday and the part-ee on Saturday, but I'll see what's decided for tomorrow and how I'm feeling, as on the other hand I'd hate to miss an opportunity to get together for a very rare chance to see him.
