An impressive endeavor lately has been the 100, a listing of the top 100 board games, voted on by a group of various people on the 'net (including me, though I have no idea what I voted for, because it was a year ago).

There are lots of good games on there, and a surprising number that I haven't played, though I have to remind myself that I've only been heavily playing board games for 3 years and I've only really had the opportunity to play out-of-print games since I started going to EndGame just one year ago.

Here's my list of games from the list that I haven't played, but that I'm interested in:
  • Tichu (#10)
  • Die Macher (#22)
  • Showmanager/Atlantic Star (#28)
  • RoboRally (#32)
  • Torres (#33)
  • Wildlife Adventure (#34)
  • Tikal (#39)
  • Traumfabrik (#43)
  • 1830 (#45)
  • Daytona 500 (#53)
  • Schnappchen Jagd (#57)
  • Wizard (#58)
  • Stephenson's Rocket (#61)
  • Elfenland (#66)
  • Ave Caesar (#68)
  • Breaking Away (#71)
  • Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (#73)
  • Taboo (#74)
  • Hare & Tortoise (#75)
  • Was Sticht (#78)
  • Un Reinfenbreite (#84)
  • Battle Cry (#85)
  • Code 777 (#89)
  • Chinatown (#91)
  • Royal Turf (#92)
  • Capitol (#95)
  • Mamma Mia (#96)
  • McMulti (#97)
  • Africa (#98)
  • Dvonn (#99)
And here's the ones that I've tried out on the computer, and like, and thus should play the real thing:
  • Acquire (#11)
  • Taj Mahal (#23)
  • Battleline (#29)
  • Can't Stop (#54)
  • Blokus (#60)
Though I'll hae to admit the slew of card games in there really don't enthuse me that much. The board games I'm pretty excited to try.

Finally, there are some that I just don't care to play:
  • Time's Up (#17)
  • Crokinole (#18)
  • Roads & Boats (#37)
  • Lowenherz (#44)
  • Titan (#47)
  • Ricochet Robot (#52)
  • Diplomacy (#56)
  • Hannibal: Rome v. Carthage (#59)
  • Smarty Party (#62)
  • War of the Ring (#77)
  • Age of Renaissance (#83)
  • Gipf (#88)
  • Carabande (#94)
Among those I actually traded away Titan and Hannibal unplayed, and I've tried Ricochet Robot and Gipf online, to no excitement. The others are mostly too long or not my type of games, with the exception of Lowenherz, where I fail to understand the continued reverence when there's now a new edition of the game.

On the whole I've got a 53/100 rating, or 60/100 if you count computer plays.

We used to play roborally a lot, but it has a pair of problems (no idea if the new version fixed either). 1) Its a race game, and without the proper course construction if can become very un-interactive. You need a course that has a lot of back and forth, and a very small map. 2) One slow player, or player that has spacial issues, can really slow the whole game down. Programing your robot really requires you to be able to visualize twists and turns fairly well. In our old playgroup one of hte people who really liked the game was very VERY slow at this step, and it made what should have been a fast paced game drag a bit.

Of your don't care to play list, I've played a ton of Titan and Diplomacy, and would play both again, but only online. Age of Renaissance sits on my shelf unplayed, along with (I think) Ricochet Robot.

If you're interested in RoboRally, you could come up here and play it. I don't know how the new version is different from the version that I have but you'd have some experienced players who can help avoid the few problems that [livejournal.com profile] seidl mentioned for it.

Personally, I like Diplomacy but you really have to have the right group for it. I could easily see it really sucking if people that weren't appreciative of its dynamics were playing it.
