Today Bill Back, the Vice Chairman of the Californian GOP and a contender for chairmanship found his political career blackened by his racism. In 1999 he elected to publish an article, as part of an official GOP organ espousing the views of the party, stating that the nation would have been better if the Civil War hadn't occurred.

Back's comments in response to the controversy eerily echoed those of Lott. He said that he should have been more sensitive, but never actually admitted that the views either were wrong or weren't representative of the GOP.
I wonder how long it's going to be before the average American realizes that racism is an important plank in GOP policy and has been since the '60s.
