I've been doing a lot of biking in the last few weeks.

Three times in that period, I made a run up to Lake Temescal. Actually I only made it to Temescal two of those times. The other time, I tried to instead approach from the south side of the lake, and the hills were much worse, and I just couldn't make it. On the northern approach, I still can't bike a really steep part under the freeway, but the rest is doable.

I expect this obsession will last through the summer months when I get after-work daylight. I'm trying to get better on hills and I'm trying to exercise more, so Temescal seems like a good answer to both problems. Plus, I read a chapter or two of A Storm of Swords whenever I'm up there, which is very pleasant with the lake and the quasi-wilderness and all.

Today, Kimberly and I biked in the opposite direction, going down to Emeryville to eat at the Rubio's on Bay Street, then to shop for groceries at the Target south of there. It was generally a successful expedition. Rubio's is always good, while the Target in Emeryville was at least as good as the Target in Albany -- and also had more bike locks (and pretty metalwork in the parking lot).

Especially with the Bay Trail such a mess through at least September, I think Emeryville will be the Rubio's of choice for now if one of us get a hankering.

I'm also planning on doing some type of biking expedition to new territories a week from Saturday. Kimberly & I will be at the Pride parade on Sunday, so Saturday will be a good day to get my fill of no-people.

I haven't decided where exactly, but I'm thinking it'll be somewhere I BART to. Maybe the lands along the Carquinez Straight past Point Pinole, or maybe the lands around the south of the Bay. Either one would extend my Loop Around the Bay Trail map, which hasn't been extended in maybe a year.

Meanwhile, I've also been doing lots of work on improving my presentation on the web.

As I've already mentioned, I'm revamping my web site to get it all up to date and such. This is getting tiny bits of attention when I think about it. I'm currently converting over all my old Ars Magica files to the new setup.

I've also put together a new WordPress blog called Mechanics & Meeples (name thanks to Kimberly; I told her I was looking for something alliterative to match Designers & Dragons). I'm going to collect together all of my board game writings there; many have been unavailable since BoardGameNews dumped all of us editorial, review & analysis writers. My board game writing has always been part of group blogs and other sites, so it'll be nice to have it on its own. It's just going to take a while to get all of that information up and back on the web.

While I was at it, I grabbed the designers-and-dragons.com domain too. I should probably point it to the RPGnet column, but it's not a big priority right now. I just wanted to make sure some scummy squatter couldn't take it.
