This piece is intended to break up the monotony of my posts about the RPG industry, so I've course I'll start with ...

The Book. Mongoose Publishing has officially announced the release of Designers & Dragons: A History of the RPG Industry for this August. That's my history book. I think we're all hoping that it'll be a GenCon release, as a history of the industry would be a great product to get out at GenCon.

In the meantime, I'm continuing work on the book. Matt Sprange gave industry members a final chance to comment after I sent him a full draft of the book on February 28. Since, I've been updating articles based on comments and otherwise keeping my hands on the history pieces, since it looks like I get to control them for another month. A few people suggested that their companies should be in the book, and it looks like I'm going to add two full articles, one of which I just first drafted ... but more of that in my regular weekly catch-up on history book work.

The Garage. I wrote about our garage work a lot at the end of last year, then it kind of faded away as I got bored with the slow progress. The good news is: it's now all done. It was officially finished a bit more than a week ago, when we got our final inspection. We do still have a bit more house work pending, though. First, we're tearing up the floor of the garage (probably) to fix our sewer pipe, which has caused us ugly problem over the years. Second, we're having our all-star garage builder back for a return appearance, to put better windows in my office and to rebuild our front steps.

I'm looking forward to a future where I don't roast in summer and where I don't have to always warn visitors that the top step is a doozy.

The Games. Games and game-related writing have really taken a back seat this year. I was a bit depressed to see how few board games I played in January and February, due to a combination of the Hawaii trip and the book. Less than a dozen plays each month! My review writing has similarly suffered, while my updated Gone Gaming column for BGi has only received a couple of new posts this year.

I'm hoping to improve on this record as I move through March. Though I'm still doing lots of history-book work, it's not quite as all-encompassing. Thus I've got most of a review that I'll finish in the next couple of days, and hope to write a Gone Gaming article on the newest deckbuilding game shortly.

And, I'm hoping for more game playing. This last Wednesday night, I rather uniquely got to play six games. Sure, many of them were very short, but it still felt like a nice immersion back into the stream of board game playing.
