GM-less Weekend
Dec. 6th, 2010 02:26 pmHad a new experience this weekend--or at least something that I hadn't experienced in about a year and a half. I went to roleplay on Saturday and I didn't have to prep anything.
That's thanks to Mary running a new Dresden Files game.
It was my first experience with FATE, and I found the very ambigious "aspects" a bit confusing, but other than that the session went quite well. As we talked over the course of the afternoon we managed to develop a Berkeley-Oakland area that has some interesting elements, and 2.75 of the 4 of us got handles on our characters. (Mine isn't done yet, while Donald has been given two weeks to continue angsting about who he'll be playing.)
One of the other delightful things about the session was that all 5 people there had read through all 12 of the extant Dresden books, thus we were able to talk about some elements of the books and how they intersected our game without having to discuss anything in code (as we did the previous week, during my KingMaker session, when Dave P. was around, who just borrowed books 5-7 from me).
I should be clear that when I start running games every week (or every week folks were around), it was my choice, as I had multiple things that I was enthusiastic about. However, a year and a half of that combined with my constant work on the RPG History Book has burned me out, so I'm very happy to take a step back and am also looking forward to playing again. Hopefully this campaign will go well!
