A very quiet evening tonight because K. is out of the house at a sleep study. She's been having problems with daytime tiredness for much of the year; hopefully they'll find out something about it.

Before she left, we had a nice sushi dinner with Lisa, who is driving her off to the boonies, where the study is. It was very tasty. I haven't had sushi in years, as K. does not like it and got tired of their other offerings several years ago ... but after our visit tonight to the restaurant formerly known as Manga Manga tonight, she said we should go back.

After returning from dinner I sanded off my second set of wood filling, which I'd done in the late afternoon, and was frustrated to find there are still some teeny cracks that refuse to be filled. I'm very tempted to just let them be, but this time I'm really trying to work against my natural inclination to do tedious, detailed work sloppily. So I'll probably take one more shot at just those teeny cracks (tomorrow). If I do detailed work on them then sand the results by hand, it shouldn't be as big of a hooplah as when I pull out the power sander.

Meanwhile, our great financial agent has finally convinced the idiots at the loan company we've been working with on the refi that I'm not self-employed. Unfortunately they've attached some conditions for improving the look of the property, most notably including repairing the cracking wood on several windows and fixing settling cracks in the stucco. Now I'm already working on the windows, but it'll be months to finish them all, and they won't do the loan until they're done, and I suspect that we'd have to spend thousands of dollars to repair the superficial issues with the stucco facade. So, our agent got the refi further along than I expected, but I'm pretty sure it's dead as a doornail.

With an empty house, I read some tonight (The Lightning Thief, Relative Dementias, and the horrendous final volume of the recent Legion of Super-Heroes series), did a bit more work on Reiner Knizia's Kingdoms (since I did that wood filling in the late afternoon), edited my review of Small World: Tales and Legends, finished my AP for the penultimate Traveller adventure, and watched a bit of Keeper of Traken on the TV. Whew.

Now, I've got all the windows thrown open in my office and the sunroom, and I'm hoping it'll cool the room down soon. It's starting to work. Today was supposed to be the last super hot day of this heat wave.

I expect there are some very disturbed cats outside ...
