So, I've been feeling overstressed lately. Don't know why exactly. Maybe because I'm finishing up on High Society for Skotos, and that last 20% of the work that takes 80% of the time can really feel like it telescopes. Maybe because I'm doing regular evening work on my RPG History. Maybe just because the gloom and rain have stuck over Berkeley for an extra two months.

In any case, I've recognized it and am doing my best to relax this weekend. No gaming, and I took Monday off, whereas I often work right through holidays.

Today was nice and restful. I had lunch out at Oscar's, a rare treat. Wandered here and there downtown gathering books (a pile at the library, including The Girl the With the Dragon Tatoo and whatever the newest Wild Card books is called; a box of comics at the mailbox; a copy of Steven Brust's Five Hundred Years Later at Pegasus).

Getting home, I sat down to fix the bed. Its underframe is a crappy design that's held in by screws that sometimes only go like 1/8" into the sides of the frame. So one corner collapsed last year. It was put back together with more and better screws, and that seems to have remained sturdy, but these last several days shifting around in the bed has made lots of noise. I pulled up the mattress and boxspring today and sure enough the opposite corner was pulling apart.

While out wandering today I got a C-clamp, adding to my increasing collection of tools. It worked like a charm, holding the parts of the frame together while I drilled new holes, then screwed new, longer screws in. Hopefully the problem is solved well now. Certainly everything sounds better.

I'm generally not that handy, but nice once in a while to do some handywork that actually, well, works.

The rest of the afternoon I then spent relaxing on that bed, often with my cats around me. I alternatively read a really bad Traveller book on my iPad (for review, and thankfully it's getting close to done) and a few comics: The Order, Volume 2 and Ultimate Spider-Man Volume 22.

I do have one bit of work I want to do this weekend: cutting down the weeds in our front yard. But that should be an hour or so with a weedeater. K. and I are considering biking, though I doubt Kimberly will actually be up to going out; we shall see. I expect to read more too, and probably do some writing on my RPG History book (which I also did some of last night).

Generally, though: relaxation is called for.
