The End of Pirates
Dec. 3rd, 2005 08:58 pmSo I showed up to Donald's place for gaming today. For the past couple of months I've been less frequent in my RPGing. I'd been going when I was running, but not when Dave's pirates game was running. I'd mainly marked that up to enjoying running more than playing right now.
But this week I went anyway for pirates, because I hadn't seen anyone for several weeks due to the holiday.
So, Kevin, Woo, and I were sitting around a bit after 1pm and Dave P. called and said we should update our characters. We just kind of stared at each other for a few minutes after the call finished, and no one made a move to do so, and I said, "You know, I'm not really finding this pirate campaign that fun."
(It was because it was too piratey, by the by, and I didn't like playing someone who was fundamentally not a nice guy.)
And when I said that, Donald and Kevin both acknowledged that they didn't enjoy it either, while Woo said it wasn't what he expected. And that's pretty typical too, no one else saying anything without me speaking up.
So Dave P. showed up, and when he did, Woo said, "Shannon has something he'd like to tell you". Thanks Woo.
So I told him we really weren't enjoying the campaign, and it didn't have anything to do with him gamemastering, but it was just too realistic for us, and not fun as a result.
Dave P. took it well, I think, and is going to spend the next couple of weeks thinking about if he's up to running something else. And today we instead let Donald gamemaster a few board games of HeroQuest which is a fun little pseudo-RPG game.
And hopefully we'll now end up with something that suits us all better.
