Back in the room momentarily. I had a huge game called Conquest of the Empire which I didn't want to shepherd or carry all day, and so it came home. I wasn't really intending to pick up review copies this week, but I'd been excited enough about this one that I was willing to haul it home.

And we did the big tasks that I wanted to today.

It looks like we can get a publisher & distributor for the comics. We'll have to front money, so we just have to be confident that they'll do well, but we shouldn't really be doing it if we're not. So mark that up largely as a success, and one that makes me very happy.

I got to demo my CCG for the company. I just showed how it work, and unfortunately didn't get to play it. They'll play it back at the home office, and I just have to hope that my baby does well. I was going around with "I should have spent more dev time smoothing it out" and all the rest afterward, but honestly I put as much time as I possibly could have without going crazy(er). A 3-week design of a CCG was a really interesting project in any case, especially as a learning experience.

I did my best to explain not just the game, but also all the balance points implicit in the game design, deck construction, and all the rest. Z. reiterated that he'd been impressed by the proposal.

However, I had quite an oh s**t moment as I walked up to the booth with my demo in bag. Scott M., one of Skotos' partners, was there talking to Z. and then he produced a deck of cards with some familiar looking glyphs & symbols on it. Yep, he was dropping off a good-looking set of cards as a proposal for the same CCG. Now, I knew this was always a bit of a long shot, and I haven't gotten my hopes anywhere near up (though I've maintained a positive attitude about it all), but hearing that Scott had his company working on a game for a month, and knowing that they can also offer an online gaming engine, well that's pretty daunting. Word is that another group submitting decks are the designers of one of the company's other CCGs.

So, if nothing else I can take pleasure right now in having a proposal accepted against two such strong and professional companies. I'll just hope that my scrappy little independent design does some exciting and innovative stuff that the others doesn't, and that its strong mix of German & American design is appealing.

I need to get back out now, to find some very late lunch and hurry back to our booth, as I've been away for over an hour at this point ...

Oh, also ran into Rick Thornquist today, which was cool. It was while I was demoing, and so I couldn't chat more. Then I ran into Michael Derry, who I haven't seen in years and years. He lives in the Bay Area, so it's funny to meet him here in Indy.
