GenCon Day 1
Aug. 18th, 2005 11:30 pmI'm now living in the Twilight Zone.
Started at 7am this morning. Got up and showered and then met Todd & Erwin & Monica and then set off on the adventure of setting up our booth in 2 hours or less. This was made all the harder by our many, many boxes of players' guides and comics being dropped off at one of the slightly further entrances from the exhibit hall, and thus our having to cart them back and forth for about an hour. Jazz showed up too, and so it slowly got done.
From 10am when the exhibit hall opened to 6pm when it closed is largely a blur. We all, and many players, sold Skotos for various amounts of time, pressing player's guides into hands, and asking people to take the Quiz of Cthulhu so that they could get a free comic. Chris and I also walked aisles 2000-1600 of the exhibit hall, talking to various people, giving out fliers, etc. Hopefully more people will know about RPGnet advertising opportunities by the time we're done.
At some time I broke away to eat lunch, not necessarily because I was hungry, but just because it had been a million years since I'd gotten up, and so I figured food was necessary to keep the body running.
The evening was a bit more relaxed: dinner with Monica & Erwin; a few games afterward; a brief stop at a Fantasy Flight Games party; and then a game of Killer Bunnies with a crew of 10.
It's now 1.37am, but it feels like much, much longer since I got up, let alone since I was home. I was happy that I got to play a few fun games today, but also that we've got one day of the convention floor finished. It looks like we're going to give away all or most of what we have, especially the comics, which are being given out by us and 5 different Lovecraftian booths.
With so much time spent in hotels and the center, all of it very busy, and eating generally at convenience, everything takes on a strange timeless quality, hence the twilight zone reference.
Tomorrow: more of the same, plus hopefully a talk about comics and a demo of my CCG (I talked with the contact on that briefly today), then Todd & Kathy's Cthulhu LARP in the evening. Could be a good day if anything exciting happens on those fronts.
Oh, and I got a Bedivere for Shadows Over Camelot, which was my one swag priority at the con.
