Mostly Relaxing Weekend
May. 31st, 2005 10:47 amI took advantage of the holiday on Monday to go ahead and create a 3-day weekend. The general object was R&R, and I managed to mostly get that.
Relaxing things included:
Less relaxing was the fact that Kimberly was very anxious all weekend. However the bright side of that is she's coming out of her office, and we're interacting in real ways, and that's why we're noticing the anxiety.
These changes are all stressful for me too, and we had some bad interactions Sunday night as a result.
At various points over the weekend, I also worked on cleaning up the room formerly known as the Junk Room. I seem to do this about once a year, and somehow it always ends up a mess again. Last year, after I got it into good shape, we decided to get our fireplace fixed, and thus our guest futon got removed from the Living Room and dumped into the Junk Room. It's been there, unassembled, since and the clutter just gathered around it.
So this Saturday, because I had extra time after waking up early and before going to gaming, I got that futon put back together and started rearranging the room. I did more work Sunday and Monday and we now have a kind of nice den. Besides the futon it's got an extra TV, a VCR, and now Kimberly's collection of VCR tapes (which were previously not available to watch as we removed the VCR from the Living Room when we put in the Playstation).
I still need to figure out what to do with my electronics cluster in that room--our DSL modem, our Wireless Acess Point, our printer with Internet connection, and our web/mail server--basically everything that's connected directly to the phone line, without going through a wireless card. I should see if Debian supports any wireless cards, as moving that server out of the Guest Room would be the biggest plus. The various routers, hubs, and printer would be less of a big deal.
Today I pay for the relaxing weekend with a very busy day. I'm doing lots of Skotos catchup work this morning, then I have an appointment with Kimberly over lunch, then I have a major project for the afternoon, then I should really finish up a game review this evening.
Whew.
Relaxing things included:
- Two nice showers with the wife, on Friday and Sunday.
- Getting up early enough, thanks to our new schedule, to have lots of morning available, and after doing things for a few hours, finding that it's just noon.
- A couple of nice walks with Kimberly, one at night and one in the morning, with the goal each time being art supplies for Kimberly to play with (which was successfully accomplished).
- A pleasant Sunday brunch.
- Naps.
- A pile of new graphic novels by Busiek, Kirkman, and Priest, thanks to my last residues of tax + birthday money. (Actually, I have a tiny bit of $$ left, but it's already allocated for Louis XIV, a new Alea game that I'll pick up next time I make it to EndGame.)
