[News] RIP, Will Eisner
Jan. 4th, 2005 11:11 amWill Eisner passed away yesterday, amidst quadruple heart bypass surgery. He was 87.
Eisner was truly a giant in the comic community. He did a lot to bring quality storytelling to the mass-market through his Spirit comic. He also single-handedly pioneered the graphic novel with A Contract with God and other stories of real people. Most graphic artists still haven't achieved the quality of what he was putting out thirty years ago.
I've only read bits and pieces of his output, because he didn't author the more fantastical stories that I prefer, but nonetheless his impact on the comic industry is profound, matched only by Stan Lee and a very few others.
Here's a short article: not much really; the comics press will doubtless be full of bigger outpourings in about a month.
