Sleepwriting

I actually outlined most of my new TT&T article on "transcreation" last night while trying to fall asleep. Actually, to be honest, I wrote most of it, in that I formed most of the lines in my head as I figured out what exactly it'd all be about. Well, at least for the first 50% of the article or so, before I got bored and dozed off.
This is a tact that I often take. I used to do a lot of my pre-writing writing either when I was walking to work or when I was in the shower. Somehow, over the last year or two, I've been doing less of that in those two situations. I think I've got too many other things sharing space in my head nowadays.
When I pre-write something, sometimes the result is good, and sometimes not.
Today I felt like it resulted in a bit of my article being jumbled, as I jumped from topic to topic in a way that made perfect sense last night, but which I couldn't emulate today. Nonetheless, the whole article came out in one burst of about an hour, which is pretty good.
Other times, however, pre-writing gives me a lot of creative juice. I figure out connections that I wouldn't when I was sitting at the computer to type.
Actually, today's article will probably be on the whole better for my figuring it out in advance. I'll get the advantage of those extra creative neurons, and I'll get to smooth it all out tomorrow when I edit it.
Weird how the creative brain works.
