Kill Animals Quicker, Says Schwarzenegger

"Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger wants to repeal a state law that requires animal shelters to hold stray dogs and cats for up to six days before killing them."

My favorite bit is that the explanation of how this is a great and humane idea comes from the Department of Finance:

"The waiting period has caused overcrowding and forced some shelters to kill off animals simply to make room for new ones, said H.D. Palmer, a spokesman for the state Department of Finance."

The savings? $14 million.

That's some interesting logic. We should make it easier/quicker to kill animals, because otherwise the shelters get too crowded, which makes them have to kill animals. And we wouldn't want them to have to kill animals, right? So we should make it quicker and easier for them to kill animals ... to prevent that problem that makes them have to kill animals.

Sigh.
