Good News at the Polls
Jun. 10th, 2004 12:37 pmThis is thrilling:
Kerry Leads Bush
The latest national poll shows Kerry in the lead over Bush by 51%-44%. With that moron Nader entering the race, Kerry's lead gets pulled into the margin of error, 48-42%, but this poll still shows him remarkably ahead. Of course, it's still months before the election, and Bush will undoubtedly get a boost from the randomly improving economy,Reagan's very timely death, and the October surprises he's planning (we already know about one, his under the table deal with Saudi Arabia to decrease gas prices in October)--but it's looking like there's a chance that The Beast won't be re-elected.
This was nice to hear too:
California Favors Easing Three Strikes Law
You see, for a number of years now, we've had a law in place in California that puts people in jail for life for doing things like shoplifting a sixty-cent candy bar. It was what you'd have to call an overreaction to a murder and it's put a lot of people in jail for the long-term when they definitely don't deserve it and has massively overrun our penal system. Now, the vast majority of voters have decided it's too much.
One of the groups opposed to easing Three Strikes? The California Correctional Peace Officers Association. Now, why would they want to keep more people in jail ... ? I'm sure it's all about justice, not keeping their paychecks coming in.
