I've been to Point Reyes a few times, back when I was hiking a lot with the Sierra Club and also on one trip with my Mom, Alan, and Jay, and we saw elk every single time. One time, we saw 5 or 6 of them just strolling a hillside right off the road! One of the Sierra Club folks told me that elk are really common in that area.
