Birthday Books & No Internet

Today I'm not even doing my normal Sunday yard work, but instead am lounging around to read and play games. (I picked up Bal?tro from Steam yesterdayl. Fun game in the Roguelike-style I like.)
I got a little bonus birthday present yesterday in the form of about half of my upcoming book THIS IS FREE TRADER BEOWULF: A SYSTEM HISTORY OF TRAVELLER in layout to be checked over. I looked through six-and-a-half chapters, found a few things to polish here and there, but am overall thrilled. This is the most gorgeous book to ever go out with my name on it (and I think it's a good book too that was wonderful to prepare). Preorders and PDFs are supposed to be available at some point in April.
I also got a bit of a reminder of the relentless forces of entropy this morning. I woke up to no internet and when I finally wandered downstairs discovered all of the light had gone out of our cable modem. I called up our provider and they said no problem, you can pick one up in your local office or we can mail you one that should arrive in 3-5 business days.
Except the local store is marked "temporarily closed", with the tech guy agreeing there was nowhere actually local for us. I briefly considered the insanity of flying to Oahu to get a new cable modem but then said "mail it" and was unable to coax any expedited mailing, with the typical response "at this time we do not have the ability to expedite shipping my apologies".
And I'm not convinced that 3-5 days won't be 7-14 or something out here on Hawaii, but we shall see. We can get most things done hotspotting through our phones right now, just not necessarily our streaming shows that we've been watching, unless we want to watch on a laptop or something.
Anyhow, not going to let it break my stride or spoil my day. In fact, it may be good the internet failure happened on my birthday, so I can shrug off what's a fairly notable annoyance.
