Pretty subpar weekend. K. got some bad medical news on Friday and it dropped a pall on the house.
I went up to Tilden again on Saturday afternoon. It's gotten a lot easier to do, even when carrying a computer, which I was. I sat in the Botanical Gardens for 2 or 3 hours and worked on some of my current projects. It was beautiful there, even with occasional screaming kids. (Not sure why the Gardens are such a hot spot for kids, except maybe that they're free.) It was the most restful part of the weekend (and I even got a few thousand words written: the first section of my Bully Pulpit Games history and a first draft of a history on TSR's CGR1). On my way home I dropped off my bike to be tuned up: new brake pads, new chain. Damned thing is riding a lot better now and even stops on command.
Later in the evening on Saturday, I spent a couple of hours working on the yard. We have a new refrigerator coming on Thursday, and I had to make sure that it could make it all the way to the back door without getting attacked. As usual, the ivy on our side yard was advancing its battle lines pretty substantially. I had to cut it back and even had to free part of the sidewalk of dirt form accumulating and dying ivy of days past. Took about 2 hours all told, which is about twice what I'm usually willing to do for yardwork at a time. Still, it's done and hopefully there will be no problems with the delivery now.
Then we drowned our sorrows in Ben & Jerry's and Taco Bell on Sunday. Good 'ole comfort food.
The rest of the weekend was a wash. I wasn't really up to much writing. (Still not.) I did finish up the two D&D histories I had to do for the weekend, but I wasn't up to any more. So, I mostly read. I finished the somewhat disappointing sixth novel in the main sequence of the Black Company, Bleak Seasons; I'm somewhat discouraged to see it was written after a gap of 6 years, because that explains the changes in style and suggests they're not likely to go away. I also started on Player of Games as I've been wanting to give Iain Banks' Culture novels one more shot for a few months (for obvious reasons). Enjoying it so far!
