Today being Sunday, and us being in Hawaii, Kimberly & I had our annual trip to church this morning. Nice church, lots of guitar playing, even including some electric guitars this time around. Delicious chocolate-chip-cookie-like desert afterward.
I would have liked to go swimming today, but there was pouring down rain, so instead the rest of the day was pretty casual. I'll be happy as long as I get to swim at least once more while we're here, at Lawai Beach, so that I can actually see some fish.
In the afternoon, my dad took me up to 'Ele'Ele where The Original JoJo's shave ice is. It's my favorite shave ice on the island because they have chocolate among their flavors. Unfortunately, this year's shave ice experience was somewhat subpar. There was a younger woman working than I've seen before, and she was on the phone part of the time she was making our orders. Thus my chocolate, blue hawaii, and vanilla shave ice ended up being butterscotch, blue hawaii, and vanilla, and was underflavored beyond that. My dad got ice cream he didn't order at the bottom of his shave ice and we assume the woman after him who did order ice cream didn't get any. So, sort of disappointing shave ice, perhaps enough to discourage me from going 30 minutes out of our way to 'Ele'Ele in the future.
On the bright side, we did get to see the southwest corner of the island, as going to JoJo's is about the only reason we go that far west (all that's beyond is an army base). While eating disappointing shave ice, we looked out over the very brown bay there at 'Ele'Ele and came to the general decision that we probably wouldn't be swimming at all to the west during this visit.
The rest of the day was pretty low key. Some reading (currently Fleet of Worlds by Larry Niven and Till the Butchers Cut Him Down by Marcia Muller) and lots of talk with my dad. There was some napping too ... because, y'know, Hawaii.
I did query out cat sitter this morning, and her last message had gotten lost in the ether, but all is well other than Cobweb not liking her chew pills (which has been a problem for a while).
This evening, the constant rain that fell through most of the day has turned into very high winds, which have been rushing all about the house. It's been really different weather this time in Hawaii, but apparently weather that's not too unusual for winter.
