So this last Friday was Kimberly's and my 11th anniversary. I was thinking about it this morning, and I *think* we might now have been together for at least as long as my mom and dad were before they were divorced. If not, it's close. Kind of scary, because my mom and dad's marriage sort of seems like it was an eternal state of being before my rise to consciousness, and now that time's gone in a heartbeat.

In any case, Kimberly suggested saw fun and low-key things for our anniversary, which resulted in a very nice evening.

I took a half-day off work, so in the afternoon we went down to Emeryville to see Harry Potter #8. Good film! As I told Kimberly, I quite like the films because they incorporate J.K. Rolwing's great and inventive ideas while simultaneously dumping much of her poor writing. I'm also quite impressed that all 8 of these films got made. I thought it was a pipe dream when it was announced--but then I remember George Lucas talking about his 9 Star Wars films in the early '80s, and we all know what came of that. Having finished the 8 films, I'm now sorry there won't be more. A pity that Rowling seems to have decided she actually hates writing.

After the movie, Kimberly and I went to Chevy's for dinner and had delicious Tex Mex. I even had a margarita to celebrate the occasion, which is the first alcohol I've had since my friend Eric R. was last in the Bay Area. Which was 2007 or 2008.

And after that we took the Bay Trail up to the Berkeley Marina before heading back home. A nice ride and overall a great day (following by adult brownie and Project Runway at home).

Saturday was typical. Kimberly went to her friend Lisa's house while I ran Pathfinder at Endgame. Not typical was the fact that I was totally exhausted by the time that night rolled around. After struggling to keep my eyes open for two hours, I went to bed at midnight, and was actually able to fall right asleep. Yay.

For Sunday, Kimberly had spotted a book-trade place up in El Cerrito, the Bay Area Free Book Exchange. You can just go there and take what books you want. You can donate books if you want.

I was happiest about getting rid of some non-fiction books that I'd read once, that I wasn't going to read again, and that Moe's didn't want. I did pick up one book while there, a collection of plays of George Bernard Shaw--something that I'd been wanting to do for 11 years since Kimberly and I saw Arms & The Man somewhere in Ireland (though I think it was called by its operatic name, The Chocolate Soldier).

Nowadays my criteria for books I'm willing to buy (or take) are pretty high, because I only want to increase my collection with stuff that's genuinely great. I use the library for other stuff. So, I only got that one book, which was about what I expected to find in a totally random assortment. Kimberly, contrariwise, was more willing to get stuff that she figured she'd just take back when done and she also managed to find a few books off of her Amazon wish list, so she was more enthusiastic about the book swap than I.

(But I got a lovely ride up the Ohlone Greenway with my wife on an entirely gorgeous day, with the temperatures just topping 70 and wonderful breezes coming off the Bay, so I wasn't complaining.)

There was some napping after we got home, and that was mostly the anniversary weekend.
