The Rest of Life
Jul. 4th, 2011 06:09 pmSo the new windows in my office have been a godsend. Especially since I also got some removable screens to go in the windows of the sun room, next to my office. It used to be that if it got much about 65 degrees, my office started to get uncomfortable. Last week we were running to 80 degrees, and I wouldn't even notice it was hot. Yesterday, at 90 degrees, it was a teeny bit warm in my office, but before the windows, it would have been unlivable.
Sadly, the windows don't seem to protect as much against the cold. When we were having our unseasonable weather last week, it was still chilly in my office, despite all the better insulated windows. But, my office is as far away from the heater as you can get in our house and there are still lots of less-well insulated windows here, so it's perhaps not that big a surprise.
Still, it's likely better and in any case it was the heat that just killed me.
We've been having other house work done. Our front steps got redone a few weeks ago. Next up we're going to get a new deck built upstairs. There's some niggling stuff afterward, and then we'll be done, having gone through our refi money from a couple of years ago.
Generally, it's stuff that should improve our quality of life here and also are things that we probably needed to have done to ever sell the house (so might as well have it while we can appreciate; I've seen too many people do massive renovations just as they're leaving).
Oh, and some of the refi money went to furniture. Friday night I did an epic haul of a cat tree a mile and half. We got rid of K's over-sized and increasingly ragged one that her bf built for her 16 years ago. The new one has five levels and seems to be attracting fun cat attention.
Also new: couch and loveseat. The first time K. and I have actually had new living room furniture. (Everything else was hand me downs.)
Gonna be a hectic week, as K's mom and brother are arriving in San Francisco nowish and will be here through Thursday morning. Unfortunately, I have too much work at work to take half-a-week off, but I'll see them some evenings. And even that'll still be busy ...
