House Work Continues
May. 15th, 2011 11:35 pmSo we have just about completed our switcharoo in the upstairs of our house.
Thursday, we put together the Family Room I'd been envisioning in our former Bed Room. It's a very nice use of the largest room in our upstairs, with a couch and chair sitting between all the windows and bookshelves lining most of the other walls. I just finished stocking the bookshelves appropriately today. There's still a bit of work to be done there getting a nice TV and DVD setup, especially to let Kimberly watch DVDs on days when I have people over. I hung out there and read during most of today and found it a very nice venue. It's not just more private than the Living Room downstairs, but also more light-filled and airy.
Friday I rearranged my office in a way that I've been wanting to for months. I swapped my desk 90 degrees, away from the windows it used to be under. Since I've been getting my headaches, I've discovered that every time I open those blinds, I end up with a painful head. Thus, a lightless office, and given that gloomy Berkeley winters already make me gloomy, that's been subpar. So I'm hoping now that I can at least open the ones behind me (though there are some glare issues with my new, more glare-y iMac). In the process I got some extra shelving into my office, and it actually came out feeling more open, go figure. I think that's partly because it feels like it's split up into two work areas now, where before it was one area with free space hanging out on the periphery.
And finally ...
Today I filled green bin #2 of the year from the back yard. My main goal was to make sure there was a good path for our construction people when they come to put new windows in my office, which sounds like it might be in a week or so. I also got as many of the thorny plants out of the way. Darned things are taking over! Stupid thorns. I got a nice cut down my right arm from them.
