Sarah Palin's "Take Back the 20" web site mysteriously has gone down. But here's a graphic that used to be on it.

For those living in a cave, Gabrielle Giffords—the congresswoman who Sarah Palin TARGETED WITH A GUN SIGHT—was shot in the head today by a nut-job who I'm sure we'll hear was a great fan of talk radio.

The sheriff of the county said it best:

"When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government. The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous. And, unfortunately, Arizona I think has become sort of the Capital. We have become the Mecca for prejudice and bigotry."

I'm sure he'll be punished for saying it, as truth-tellers often are. Sadly, living in Arizona, it looks like he might end up shot.

Unfortunately, this was not a surprise. The Republicans have been making politics increasingly poisonous since the 1990s, with the McCain/Palin campaign being one of the disgusting, with its constant dog-whistle code about that BLACK MAN they were running against who was going to kill all the whites or something.

So, not surprised, just horrified at what this country has become.
