Got up a bit late today after busyness yesterday. After a shower I headed out to the backyard for my first goal of the day.

Priming. Through mid week I got the window I've been working on sanded and filled to the point where I was happy with it. My last bit of work--which I did on Wednesday or Thursday--I did literally by hand, which proved to be a pretty good way to get the last, small cracks filled. I then sanded it by hand and ... discovered that Ace had screwed up our primer.

To go with our 'bark brown' paint, Ace had upsold us a special 'tintable' primer which was supposed to bring the color out more. I say 'upsold', but it was actually cheaper than their normal primer, go figure. However, the Ace salesman clearly wasn't familiar with it, because he didn't know that it was supposed to be tinted before usage. So I ended up with plain white primer. Fortunately, Kimberly was able to take it back to Ace for me on Friday and get it tinted.

So with that in hand, and some time, I finally primed over the whole dining room window sill today. It looks pretty good, a bazillion times improvement over what it was before. Of course, it took something like 6 hours to get that far. So I plan to clean up my prime job a bit (tomorrow) and then spend an hour or an hour and a half on Tuesday to do a full coat of paint. And then I'll be just about done.

Well, done with one surface on one of the windows I want to repaint. I never said it'd be fast. Hopefully the next ones will be faster after this first experience though ... I think next I want to get the two side wood panels on that same window (which will be a pain because they have a ton of chunks of wood each, but I'd already started sanding them before I decided to work on just the one surface) and then do our magic non-window (which now has closets on the other side of it, and which the idiots at Citi Bank threw a hissy-fit about when we tried to refinance). And then I get a bigger ladder to do all the tops!

Really atrocious weather while I was working. All gray and gloomy. I was afraid for a while that it might rain on my fresh primer! At least it was in contrast to nice sunny weather when I biked to Endgame and back yesterday. And to think, earlier in the week I was working in the early evening to dodge hot weather.

The Rest of the Day. Lunch out. Dropped my bike off to get new brakes as my bicycle's back brakes were worn to a nub after ~2200 miles. And picked up a caulk gun to recaulk the window after the painting is done.

Lots of writing on the history book today, as I did very little on it earlier in the weekend and I had two articles I wanted to work through. More of that in my history-book posting (after, y'know, I finish the second of those articles).

A bit of napping starting around 4.30.

And some time with Kimberly and a bit of reading.

I plan to knock off on the writing within the next half an hour so that I can get a bit more reading and relaxing in tonight before I jump into the work week (where I'll be finishing up Reiner Knizia's Kingdoms).
