Ride Bike!
Apr. 25th, 2010 10:10 pmSo after writing yesterday, I decided it was really the time to get back in the habit of riding my bike recreationally, now that the winter is gone. (Don't tell the storm due in this Tuesday that.) A good decision, because I had a great morning as a result.
I went out to lunch, and read a comic over that, as I used to. The comic in question was Ex Machina Volume 8, a fun political/superhero comic by Brian Vaughan. After that I rode down to the Bay and back.
It wasn't really that long of a trip. Just down through Berkeley, over the Pedestrian Bridge, along the Bay Trail from Berkeley to Emeryville, then back up, but it was fun. The day was absolutely gorgeous, and warm enough that I wished I'd worn my shorts. I smiled when I went over the Pedestrian Bridge at how easily I took the slope. A year ago, that took real effort. The Bay Trail was crowded, but it was enjoyable seeing so many other people out walking, running, and biking. The Bay was beautiful as always, as were the views of the Golden Gate and San Francisco.
So, good biking times. Brought my total up to 21 miles for the weekend.
On the way back I stopped by Black Oak Books, and I'm sad to say that I'm becoming disillusioned at the new store. The first time I went there, they had a great collection of graphic novels and I found several paperbacks I wanted too. Since then I've stopped by maybe three times more and I haven't found a thing. Their graphic novels have dwindled, and they have very few paperbacks any more, compared to piles of hardcovers. I may stop going out of my way to visit them.
(Which reminds me that I need to check out Other Change of Hobbit's new digs. I hope it won't be as dank and smelly as their old store had gotten. I failed to spot it when I went by the other Saturday, but it looks like it would have been in vain anyway; they've never had very good hours.)
I was back by 1.30, and the rest of the day was more mundane. Reading, writing, watching TV. Played Builders Duel for review. Going to try and get some more writing done this evening before it gets too late ...
