Stopped by the library on the way to dinner tonight and a damned bee flew down the back of my shirt and promptly stung me.
First thought, what the hell was up with that? I blame the yellow shirt I was wearing. But do bees really go around stinging flowers? Maybe it was a killer bee, finally made its way up to the Bay Area. They're supposed to be more aggressive.
Second thought, bee stings were a lot more traumatic when I was young. I don't think I've been stung in 25 or 30 years. This one hurt for a few minutes and then faded away.
Writing my RPG gaming history is a bit more somber this time than it was in 2007.
I just finished up my redraft of the Judges Guild article. Not only was Guild founder, Bob Bledsaw, alive in 2007, but he gave me comments on the previous draft of that article. He died a year later, a fact which is now noted at the end of his company's history.
Tonight I was also working on a mini-history of Dave Arneson's Adventure Games. Arneson was also alive when I last wrote. I was really happy for him, as after being out of the industry for almost 20 years, he was back and really getting the appreciation that I thought he deserved. Now, just a few years later, I have to end notes like that with the phrase, "in the last years of his life."
Bummer.
