To End Game & Back Again
Aug. 1st, 2009 10:11 pmGot out of the house at about 10am today to head down to EndGame. It was the day of their eighth anniversary party. I've been going to Endgame for several years now, but I hadn't been to one of their parties yet, primarily because it's usually on Saturdays, and I'm usually RPing on Saturdays.
However, this year the party was also being held to commemorate Aaron's departure. Aaron is the guy that founded Endgame. Without him, this amazing community of gamers, this wonderful place to game, and this nice level of support for the industry would not be there. He's literally touched the lives of thousands of people through the years by his decision to set up a game store and to do it well.
One of the other owners at Endgame said today, "This is the sort of game store that we always dreamed of," and he's entirely right. It's the sort of store that anyone would dream of for their hobby, whatever it might be. It's a very well-run store, from what I can see. It seems to do well at stocking and all those important business details. It offers some innovative support mechanisms, such as its yearly auction. But it's really so much more. I said community earlier, and that's totally it. It's a great place to continue meeting people who I like, who share my interests, and whose lives I get to touch, however so lightly.
So, thanks Aaron. You done did a damned good thing.
The party was nice. I got to see Dana and Anne, both old friends that I see too infrequently, and Allan, who helps run things at RPGnet. I played a few games, and I would have been happy staying there all day, because that's the type of place Endgame is.
I headed home a bit after 12, and got home about 10 minutes before gaming was scheduled to begin.
And when we got done gaming at my place today, we talked about our newest gaming options, since my RP group met at Endgame last week and at my house today to offer up a few different possibilities to continue our Saturday gaming. I was pretty surprised to hear that there was some general interest in continuing to play at Endgame. Kevin said that he kind of liked the idea of playing at a game store. Donald said it wasn't really much closer, while also saying it was about 10 minutes closer.
(We have different ideas of distance.)
So we're going to run at Endgame on Saturdays for the next several weeks, and see how things go.
