Still Sick

So, on July 12th I got home from gaming, went grocery shopping after, and when I was done quite suddenly collapsed to the couch feeling utterly exhausted and sick. It was the start of a month+ ordeal.

It hasn't been terrible at any point, but throughout the month I've been having headaches, a stuffy head, pressure behind my eyes, sore throats, fevers, and fatigue on and off. There was a week solid that was pretty bad, and other than that I've had bad days and good days. I put off seeing the doc for a while because I kept thinking I was getting better, and then I'd get smacked down again with a vengeance.

So last Tuesday I went in to see her. My guess at that point was that I had a bacterial sinus infection, but I did my best to report my symptoms without offering any diagnosis. When we got done, she thought I might have a bacterial sinus infection, so I got a prescription for some antibiotics which I've been taking for eight days now.

These antibiotics have had a variety of delightful side effects, prime among them nausea and digestive problems. I've also been having some muscle tension and other problems that I'm hoping are signs of my sinuses suddenly clearing up and my body reacting with a what the hell reaction. They don't seem to be standard side effects.

At this point, I'm not 100% sure if the antibiotics have done the job or not. The side effects confuse things too much to tell me if my original problems with fatigue and a stuffy head are gone or not (because, for example, I was up half last night being ill). I'm really hoping the diagnosis was accurate and the drugs have done the job, because I'm at my near wit's end, but I've got 6 more days of antibiotics before I can stop and really see how I'm feeling absent drugs.

So in summary, bleh, and I'd better be on the mend here since otherwise the next step would probably be the doc throwing up her hands and scheduling a bunch of random tests to try and ascertain a solution.

And on the topic of antibiotics, I'm amused by reactions to them.

The first couple of people I mentioned the antibiotics to said something like, "Oh, you've got a bad cold?" No, that's not what antibiotics do. They in fact don't do a thing for viral infections in general. They're for bacteria.

More recently, since I've been having sickly side effects, a couple of people have said, "Yeah, they don't make antibiotics like they used to." I don't think that's actually the case either. The other two times I took antibiotics I had no particular side effects (other than some photosensitivity). I suspect these ones are messing me up more because they're more general.
