Themed Gaming
Dec. 15th, 2006 10:53 amWe had a fun, themed night of gaming last night.
First up was Ave Caesar, which was the game I'd pulled to write a review of. Asmodee sent me a copy--and I'm still amazed not just that they did the game, but also that they dropped the price $20 from the previous publisher's price (for the exact same game with the same components). It's a rollicking but random Roman race that was generally fun, though Mike A. got annoyed at being blocked a lot early in the game. (He brightened up when he was doing better later on, and I think won the game after four races.)
After that we went into my old favorites pile, first with Quo Vadis? and then with Res Publica, thus thoroughly running the gamut of games with Latin names. (The first two are actually Roman themed, though the theming was light, while Res Publica is a more general game that happens to have Romans in it as one of five peoples.) I later looked at my shelves and realized I had at least one more Latin-named game, Vinci, but there surely wasn't time for that last night.
I'm quite amused by a night of themed gaming. It had me looking at my shelves after everyone had left for what other themed play we could do.
Matt S. was with us; he has been for the last three weeks while he's been training at Google. He'll be heading back eastward now, but with his new gig at Google he'll hopefully be joining us at least a couple of times a yaer.
