Homicide. This is David Simon's fine book of journalism on a year spent with the Homicide unit in Baltimore. It's great reading that kept me constantly entranced, even when the cases got occasionally repetitive near the end. It was also amazing to see how much the Homicide TV show draws from this book. Pembleton and Bayliss are right here, and to a lesser extent Bolander, and a good chunk of the first two seasons are drawn right from the book. I want to watch them again.

Sports Night. I've been working on this on-and-off for the last several months, and I finally watched the last DVD today. Very sad to see it go, after just two years on the air, but I found the last 4-parter terrific. (Spoilers. In short, the show is put in jeopardy because the broadcast company is going under, and in the end the company is bought by an Internet entrepreneur who's likely to just break up the company and use its cable wires. However, he turns out to be a white knight who says he thinks the show is great, and anyone who couldn't make money off of it should get out of the money making business. And with that snide jab at the show's network, Sports Night is saved, but not so Sports Night.)

Elf Magic. My 5k or so words on elves this weekend all went to the Elf Magic section which is now done at a full 13k. Sorta. I'm really happy with the text which I think is all good crunchy bits, but I'm starting to think some stuff might get grabbed for other sections, which will then require a bit more writing here, or just cutting it by 1k words. Not sure which.

ICE. I'm now officially declaring my ICE history finished too. I just spent an hour and a half working through excellent comments from Pete Fenlon and Monte Cook, which I was thrilled to get. The article was considerably improved through their fine efforts, and I'm now putting it to bed. I'm officially scheduling it for November 21, and December 5. I'll do a final editorial (rather than authorial) edit when I post them to RPGnet pretty soon. My eyes are a bit glazed over, as the whole thing is a remarkable 9000 words long (hence the two-partedness).

As I've written before, this will be my last history for the year. I should get started on my plans for 2007, which currently look like this: Lion Rampant and Atlas Games (in January), then White Wolf (in two parts in February). After than I'd really like to do GDW, as I've already written one of the related articles on Imperium Games. We'll see if I can actually maintain the two-a-month or not in 2007.
